At High Caliber Contracting, we’re proud to take on projects that help protect and preserve historic buildings. One of our recent projects was lifting the iconic Edgartown Yacht Club in Martha’s Vineyard. We raised this beautiful structure five feet out of the water to install a brand-new floor system and allow for important renovations. Lifting the building not only protected it from water damage but also gave it a fresh start for the future.

The Edgartown Yacht Club, founded in 1905, is a cherished part of Martha’s Vineyard’s history. The club was built to continue the area’s long-standing maritime traditions. It’s a place where people gather to celebrate sailing, seamanship, and yacht racing in the true Corinthian spirit. Beyond boating, the club encourages friendly competition in tennis, fine dining, and social events. Members work together to keep the club’s traditions alive and ensure it remains a special place for future generations.
Although raising the Edgartown Yacht Club was a significant undertaking, preserving the structure and conducting critical renovations was required. Any structure, especially one so near the ocean, can deteriorate over time due to natural wear and exposure to salt water. In order to install a more robust floor system and carry out additional modifications without causing any harm to the original structure, we had to lift the building. This process helps preserve the Yacht Club’s history while improving its strength and safety.
A structure may need to be elevated for many different reasons. In order to avoid flood damage, homes and buildings close to water are frequently lifted to upgrade them. In other situations, raising a building makes it possible to move the entire structure to a new location, fix the foundation, or construct a basement. Structural lifting also ensures that historic structures, such as the Edgartown Yacht Club, are protected during these renovations, extending their lifespan.
Beyond safety, house lifting and building lifting have further advantages. Lifting a house or structure can add value to the property and create extra usable space below it. Additionally, it helps owners to comply with local flood codes, which can result in less expensive insurance premiums. Above all, raising a structure shields it from harm brought on by water, erosion, and shifting soil, giving property owners a lasting peace of mind.
