At High Caliber Contracting, we’ve been helping folks with house relocation and building moving in CT for years. Moving a whole house might sound wild, but with the right plan and the right crew, it’s straightforward. Here’s how we do it from start to finish, in plain language.
Step 1: Walk-through, plan, and permits.
We start by walking the property with you. We look at the foundation, the frame, porches, chimneys, trees, and access for our trucks and gear. Then we handle the paperwork with your town, utility companies, and—if needed—floodplain rules. If the project includes House Lifting before the move, we set that into the plan too.
Step 2: Beam and jack setup.
We open small pockets along the foundation and slide in heavy steel beams under the strongest parts of the house. Cross beams tie everything together. Our unified hydraulic jacks raise the home slowly and evenly—just a little at a time—so walls stay straight and doors still work. Once it’s high enough, we set the structure on solid crib stacks to keep it safe and steady.
Step 3: Roll to the new spot.
For building moving CT, we set powered dollies under the beams or use a rail system, depending on the site. Then we guide the house to its new location—sometimes across the lot, sometimes around obstacles like trees or ledge. It’s slow, careful work. We stay in touch the whole time so you know what’s happening and when.
Step 4: New foundation and set-down.
At the new spot, the foundation get built to meet code and match the plan—height, flood vents, anchor bolts, the works. Then we lower the house onto the new foundation a little at a time, remove the beams, and secure everything. Steps, utilities, grading, and touch-ups come next, and we walk you through the final checklist.
That’s the process in a nutshell. With the right plan and a steady hand, house relocation can save a great structure, open up space for new work, or get you out of a flood-prone area. If you’re curious what it would take on your property, give High Caliber Contracting a call. We’ll take a look, explain your options, and move your project forward the right way.
