At High Caliber Contracting, we recently completed a special project in the Westville section of New Haven, Connecticut. We handled the house moving of a historic home that needed to be relocated to make room for a new apartment complex. This was not a routine run-of-the-mill building — it was of real significance to the Westville populace, and we proceeded with added care and caution in every step.
The first step in this job was to carefully lift the house clear of its original foundation. Since the house was older, we took extra time to make sure everything stayed stable and secure. Once we had the home lifted, we slid it onto two massive steel I-beams to get it ready for the move. Moving a full-size house isn’t easy, but with the right equipment and the right team, we got the job done without a hitch.
The house was relocated about 140 feet across the site to a new spot where it can continue to be a part of the community. Keeping a historic home like this standing is something we take a lot of pride in. It shows that even as new things get built, the history of the neighborhood can still be protected and honored.
